Quiltmakers 100 Blocks Blog Tour Starts Today!

It just happens to start today and be my day to blog.  My block is called Black Pearl.

My friend Sue asked me if I named it after the Black Pearl from Pirates of the Caribbean.  Although I like the movie, I did not name my block after the Black Pearl on the movie.  I actually thought of Black Pearls when I looked at my block.  What do you think?  Movie or jewelry? Here is my question for you to be entered in the drawing for a Quiltmakers 100 Block Volume 3 magazine.  What do you prefer - to spend your money on movies or jewelry?  I know it's a tough one!  Also, for the lucky winner who gets chosen for my blog, not only will you get a copy of the magazine, I will send you my new ruler, Fit to be Quarter.  Yes, it's close to being finished and I will have it on my website later this week!!

Make sure that you stop by Quiltmakers blog to enter your name in for the prizes that they are giving away.  I also decided to give you a free pattern, Black Pearl Table Topper.  It is a quick, fun project to make and can be done in any colors.  My original block is done using my first fabric line Olde World Style.

In the magazine, the editors decided to do a Quilt Gallery.  I submitted a quilt and they decided to put it in!  I was so excited.  It is called the same name as the block, Black Pearl.  We will have kits available on BundlesandBolts.com within the next few weeks.

Hope you enjoy the blog hop and let me know if you make the table topper.  Enjoy!

Monique, that's a beauty of a quilt, and I LOVE the name, Black Pearl. Great Job and Congratulations.

Hmmmmm, tough call, I think I"m going to have to say I prefer to spend my money on jewelry, I love movies, and to escape into a really good movie is wonderful, but so are those little charms I collect for my charm bracelet!

Love your book, I can hardly wait to get it. Oh and love your block submission. I will go with the movie. I don't wear much jewelry, although black pearls are beautiful.
Darling block. Congratulations.

Jewelry. Hands DOWN. Much more than movies.

I love the name Black Pearl and I think of jewelry! I love the fabric you used and the design is stunning. Thanks for the pattern and such a lovley giveaway!
I would spend money on jewelry!
Dorian said…
What a great block! I see lots of possiblities with colors. Congrats in being in the magazine.

I am not much of a jewelry wearer, although I love pretty things. Movies get watched a lot here, as we don't have cable/tv. So movies is where the money is spent...unless it's fabric ;) Thanks for a chance at winning.
Lisa England said…
Well, if I could only choose between movies and jewelry, I'd choose jewelry because it lasts longer. But I'd mostly choose to spend my money on fabric! It's more precious than jewels as far as I'm concerned.
Marianne said…
What a great block and great name for it!

Movies or jewelry. I'd have to go with the jewelry. I am a bracelet fanatic and can't seem to get enough of them. Of course, my husband helps in that endeavor!!!
Carrie P. said…
I think black pearl is an excellent name for your block and quilt. Congrats!
I think I would spend my money on jewelery, mostly earrings.
Carol C. said…
Congratulations!! I love the block, the quilt, and the name. I would spend my money on jewelry, since more fabric was not one of your choices!! Thanks so much for the give away!
Deb said…
I love your designs and this block is no exception! I think of jewellery also. I would spend money on movies though as a little escapism is often the best medicine! Although quilting is my preferred escape!
Peg said…
Beautiful quilt made from the block. I love seeing the quilts. And my money goes for jewelry!
SewLindaAnn said…
Okay I'm guessing the theme for this rendition of the mag. is illusions. What an amazing block! I automatically thought of Pirates.. also. I would spend my money on movies. I'm not a jewelery person at all, lucky for my husband! Congrats on the book, ruler and all the good quilty stuff coming your way!
Recently I heard someone say it is the experiences that you can cherish not the things...so I'd have to say...after the movie....but black pearls - the jewelry are beautiful!
I would have to choose jewelry if these were my only choices, but as a quilter and gardener I would choose fabric and plants in that order......love the pattern Thanks,
Georgeann

I love your block! And the entire quilt is gorgeous!
Ginny Worden said…
Great block, jewelry that I can wear to the movies, that would be my choice.
Judi said…
No question jewelry! Now, if you had asked jewelry or fabric, it would be a whole different story! Thanks for the topper pattern - it's great!
Kathy H said…
I like your block and thanks for the directions for the table topper. I love the tan and black combination. I like to spend money on the movies, usually dvd's more than at the movies. then the whole family can enjoy them. Congratulations on being in the magazine.
Sandra said…
Love the block in its quilt setting. It really looks spectacular. I think I would choose jewelry over a movie. I may not wear it often, but I will always have it to look at and usually to remember a special occasion.
Aggiequilter said…
Love the block & quilt! Thanks for the pattern too. Congrats on being in the 100 Blocks.
I definitely choose jewelry over movies, love them both but I can't resist earrings! Thanks for the giveaway.
Candace said…
Gorgeous block, Monique! I have always been a fan of black and tan or creme together! Thanks so much for the free pattern, too! Gosh - I would have to say I would spend my cash on jewelry - I wear so little but always ohh and ahh and pieces I think would look good on me!
Cheers!
Lou said…
Love the block and it would be a great table toppper! I thought of the movie first....it does have Johnny Depp in it:)
Mary said…
I see a piece of jewelry too! Not a Pirates of the Carribean fan. I dont' buy many movies, I'd rather make some jewery. Black Pearls are so rare, I think that would be nice and go with just about anything.
Carla said…
Love the block in the quilt. Stunning when it is all pulled together like that. Movies - nope, check them out from the library. Jewelry - nope, just wear my wedding ring. Now ask me about thread or digitized designs for the quilting machine, then I would have a tough choice....
Stephanie said…
As soon as I saw your block I thought of pearls. Besides being a quilter, I'm also a beader, and I saw the jewelry connection right away. It's a lovely block, and I do love the way the "pearls" of color come together. Congratulations! And, to answer your question, I'll take a third way. Not a movie, not finished jewelry, but jewelry components for creating jewelry is where I'd spend my dime! (Including black pearls!)
Jennifer Woo said…
Love your block, just beautiful! Between movies and jewelry, JEWELRY hands down! I can always rent the movie later but a nice piece of jewelry I can wear every day! With two kids in college, I have no money for either but I enjoy the thought!!
Cory said…
What a beautiful block. I hope I win a copy of the mag so I can make it. Thank you. Take care and God bless, Cory
Congrats on being part of this great blog tour! Fabulous block!
Peggy said…
Love the look of the quilt! Neither jewelry nor movies are my first choice on where to spend my money, but if I had to choose, I guess I'd pick jewelry. (I'm more of a gadget person.)
Linda said…
I think of jewelry. The block and quilt are beautiful.
Donna said…
Black Pearl is a lovely block. I see jewelry when I look at it. Of course, jewelry is my preference over movies hand down!
Shannon said…
Very pretty pattern. Well for me it would be moves. I love a good movie. I do not like to wear a lot of jewelry.
Sandi P said…
Very striking in the black and white colorway. I love it.
I'm really not much of a movie kind of gal, so I guess jewelry would win this contest.
Mary said…
I think jewelry. I subscribe to Netflix, though, so probably end up spending more on movies that way! But in the end, my final answer has to be fabric.

Jewlery. However, I would rather spend it on fabric.

Would I rather spend my money on jewelry or movies? Neither - I'd spend it on fabric! LOL! But, since that wasn't on the list, I'd have to say jewelry.

Forget to tell you I would buy jewels any day over a movie....

Definitely movies! Though with a four-year-old, it's usually netflix for us. Does that count?

Love the block!

Great block, Monique. If I had to make a choice between spending money on jewellery or movies, it would definitely be jewellery. Good think you didn't throw quilty items in as a choice, or I would've had a really touch time deciding :)

Thanks for the pattern and giveaway.
Please ignore my previous comment under jamiehirst - apparently my son was signed into Google on our computer.

Oh I would have to say I would spend it on jewelry. I like to watch movies but I'm not the type who has to see something as soon as it comes out. Thank you for a chance to win the magazine and your new ruler. I have your other rulers and love them!

Your block's stunning, I see how apropiate's the name... Black Pearl. I almost don't like tv, so I prefer to spend my money buying jewerelly, not the expensive ones though, you can keep them forever, and wear them, not the same as the movies... so your block's a piece of jewerelly to me ;)
Vivian said…
Really like this block, it's very graphic. A Black & White or Cream quilt is still on my bucket list and it's always hard for me to imagine good designs for it so I love seeing blocks (and the quilt you made) that give me ideas.

Definitely jewelry over movies. Now if you asked jewelry or fabric......
Jen said…
Like your block and love the name. Congrats.

Hmm, jewelry or movies, I'd have to say jewelry & I'm not a jewelry type gal. Now if your choices were anything to do with quilting vs. jewelry I'd always chose very expensive machines....and I have. LOL

I love your block as it is quite striking. I would rather spend my meager amount of money on jewelry as I try to put a piece on my wall hangings. It was a great way to use earings, pins, from grandmothers.

Thanks for the chance to win your gifts---I would have to say that I prefer to spend my money on movies---I love to escape in fantasy world for a few hours whenever possible. Jewelry just doesn't do that for me!

Oooh, I love your block. I'm really loving the black and white theme. So classic. And the name Black Pearl? Love it.

No question about spending money on jewelry. While I love movies, jewelry is a better bargain. Thanks.

LOVE the block! And thanks for sharing the Black Pearl table topper pattern! I've printed it out ready to go!
I prefer jewelry to going to the movies. With jewelry you know what to expect. With a movie you run the risk of being disappointed!
Can't wait for "100 Blocks - Volume 3" to hit the stands!
VickiT said…
Oh gosh ~ SUCH an easy question you've asked. LOL I have a TV and can watch movies all day long if I want. If I'm spending money my pick is always going to be jewelry. I LOVE your block because I am obsessed with swirls right now in my machine embroidery designs and this fabric is perfect that you've used to create the block. I'm also in love with black and white quilts as well so your block really caught my eye. What a great looking block.

Congratulations on being in the 100 Blocks' next issue and the full sized quilt for the gallery as well. Awesome job. Thank you for the pattern too.

i rarely buy jewelery... jewelery supplies however, are an entirely different thing! considering the giant stack of dvds that are still sitting in their plastic wrappers waiting for me to get around to watching them, and the fact that i'm saving up for enameling supplies right now, it would definitely be jewelery. thanks so much for the giveaway!
