Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks

Welcome everyone!

It's my day for the blog tour.  I hope you have been tuning in daily to the other blog hop participants.  I have checked them out and am very impressed with all the wonderful, talented designers out there!

Here is my block that was included in the latest issue.  Applique, you say?!  Yes, I have been designing a bit of applique these days.  I love to applique but unfortunately, there is not enough time to do it all.  I was inpired by a tile design for this applique and hope you enjoy it too!

As for my giveaway for the blog tour, I have a few items to give to 3 lucky winners!  Read below to see how to enter for the drawings.

First, from Quiltmaker, a copy of the Quiltmaker's 100 Block Vol. 4.  It is an awesome magazine that has some great blocks and lots of inspiration!

Second, Fit to be Geese ruler.  If you haven't used my Fit to be Geese ruler, here's your chance to win one!  It is perfect for trimming flying geese from 2" x 3 1/2" to 3 1/2" x 6 1/2".  Also included with the ruler is a free pattern.

Third, fabric.  How about a sampling of my newest fabric line, Memories of Provence?  Combining rich reds, beautiful blacks, fabulous blues and soft creams, this is the latest fabric line that I designed with Maywood Studio.  Here are a few of the pieces.

Now, how do you enter, you ask?  Simple, leave a comment on this blog answering this question:  Dog lover, cat lover, neither or both?  If you do have a pet, let me know his/her name, breed (if applicable), and age.  I would love to hear all about your favorite 4 legged friend.  If you don't have a pet, let me know what keeps you company when you sew.  Music, dvd's, silence...?

Make your comment before Sunday night and I will draw for the winners and announce them Monday morning.

This is my quilting buddy, Tillie, our Old English Sheepdog.

Thanks for participating and good luck!

I am a cat lover.
My quilting buddy is an almost 5 year old brown Burmese named Jasper.
Jasper loves sitting on laps and is quite persistent at getting his favourite spot. The lap top or sewing always get pushed out of the way! Lol
I love your new fabric line...perhaps even more than I love Olde World Style. :)
Thank you for the opportunity to win.

Your block is lovely.

Cute dog! I don't have pets anymore. But I prefer cats. I am quite taken with your block. And that fabric is gorgeous!! Congrats for having a block in the magazine.

Dogs!!?!! Not at this house.

Excuse the above. Cha Cha cat tried her paws at typing. Her human - me - adores cats and dogs.
I am a dog person. We have a Jack Russell named Jed, he is 10 years old. Jed is a fantastic little snake catcher and lets us know when something is around that shouldn't be!

We've had a couple dogs over the years but they've really been my husband's and son's. Although the black lab(!) used to think he was my "lap dog" -- if I sat down he'd plop down on top of me.

We have both cats & dogs, but I think I am a cat lover! Our cats are T (13), Ob & Mr. Gray (4), Lu (3), Buddy & Julian (2). Our dogs are Kiera (12) & Jess (3)

Usually, Jess keeps me company in my sewing room, or else, I prefer silence....I find I work through a ton of "issues" that way.

Thank you!

Dog mostly but I do like cats too. We currently have a dog, Frisbee. He's a shelter dog of mixed origin. We think he is mostly canaan dog. He's only 8 months old right now and has quickly wagged his way into our hearts. We went to the shelter just to look and I told my son NO PUPPIES. Well we met him and he just sat there and wagged that little tail with those big brown eyes. Then my son picked him up and it was all over. We left with a puppy.

I got so sidetracked with our little zoo, I forgot to tell you how much I really like your block!

I love both cats and dogs. We currently have a 10 mo. old black lab mix that we adopted 2 months ago named Oreo. He doesn't quite keep me company while sewing since he is still limited to a few rooms (his nicknames are destructo dog and trouble), but I keep him company doing hand work. Thanks for the chance to win!

OMG, that picture of Tillie is too precious, her hair looks perfect, maybe this is her style! Can you keep it short like this or does she get cold in the winter with short hair?

Your applique block is stunning, Congratulations on making the book and submitting such an inspiring block.

We're a dog only house, I'm allergic to cats!

Please don't enter me in the giveaway but thanks so much for the opportunity.

We have a 5 year old Havanese dog named Montigue Barington ||| or Monty for short. He always lays near me when I sew. Over the years we have had cats, Burmese, himilayan, Scottish fold, Turkish van, very many happy memories. Thanks for the chance to win your gifts, that ruler sounds fascinating.

We are owned by a pig like pug named Lizzie. She loves to "help" me quilt and is always snoring next to me on the couch.
To make a long story short I have a cat named Porch Kitty. I walked outside and saw a little girl throwing a cat up onto my porch and when I asked why, she said he was hungry. So I have been feeding him ever since. About four years now. His name is usually shortened to PK.

I have two very spoilt Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Rusty and Tia. They both keep me company while I sew in my sewing room, they are great little snorers lol. They are most upset at the moment as they are not allowed to spend as much time with me as I have just had eye surgery and sadly I have to be careful of infections.
I love your block and really love your lusciuos materials.
Thanks for being so generous.

I am a dog person and you really don't want to get me started talking about the fur babies. We have two, Maya Grace and Brady Bug. They are both about three years old and both rescues. Maya came to live with us after someone dumped a litter of puppies next to the highway (they are all O.K.). Bug was at a rescue event, very sick and mangy, so of course he came home with us. Lots of love here.
Thank you.

I like both cats and dogs, but prefer cats because of the ease of care. I have an 11 year old quilting companion name of Wasabi. She is part Siamese and part Tabby. She follows me wherever I am. If I'm quilting, she will be joining me. Her special place is a padded bed on my sewing table. If I get ready to sandwich a quilt, she can be counted on to come and lay on the quilt. I have two four-legged friends, my Mini Doxie, Daisy, who is 7, and a very obnoxiously independent cat, Jasper. As best as we can remember we got Jasper when he was 2 months old back in the early summer of 1996, so that would make him 15, going on 16. At any rate he's a very old cat. He much prefers the outdoors (I live in the country) and only comes in to warm up (take a nap) and eat, then he wants out again. Oh, I am definitely a dog lover. I have NEVER caought Daisy strolling around on the kitchen counters. Can any cat lover say that? LOL

Hello! I have always been a cat lover. But, when we find a home of our own, we are planning to adopt a dog.

I currently have two cats: Chessie, a 14 year old Maine Coon and Gracie, a tripod rescue we adopted in 2009 -- she is approximately 3 years old.

I'm deaf; so, I tend to sew in silence. The cats come in and out. They currently are not allowed in the sewing room unless I'm in there. Thus, they are never sure if they're allowed in there when I am in there. So, they're cautious to the point of being funny!

Thank you for a chance to win.

First off, I have memories of Provence, too. JD (named for Jed's Dog) is an 11yr old yellow lab. Since you said to tell about him...I must say that we are heartbroken. He had his spleen removed 2wks ago. Two cancerous tumors. They give him 3months to live and we are enjoying his current good health every day.

I am partial to cats. I finally convinced my husband to adopt a cat and we brought Buddy home this past February. He is a tan and white tabby rescued from a feral colony. He is very sweet but not a lap cat. His main goal in life is to eat! We don't let him outside so it is a challenge to keep him entertained inside. He is between 2-3 years old. He enjoys sitting in open windows and on the screened porch but cold weather is putting an end to a lot of this!!

My husband and I never had any pets since we both worked, but when we bought our house in NM we became "cat owned" people. The next door neighbor's cat decided to adopt us (since they had dogs and teenagers who chased him on their motorcycles). He was a big orange tabby who was the neighborhood buddy. He definitely wormed his way into our hearts and house.

I love them both and they are great company

Definitely dog here, but I melt for kittens...but I'm allergic to cats so they can't be my sewing buddies.
We had a dog for 14 years, had to put him down 2 years ago...his name was Wicket (after the Ewok in Star Wars). My kids were very scientific about naming him (or maybe I should say my hubby was) - we had to vote and had a whole chart going for names. He was about 6 1/2 pounds of love - a Maltese/red toy poodle mix.
His sewing adventures started when he was 6 months old and swallowed a threaded needle while on my lap - thread first - I couldn't get it in time, so he spent the night at the emergency clinic, then to a specialist, and he finally passed the thing without issue...and they gave me the needle back in a bio bag - yuck! Miss him greatly, but a lot of travel now to see my kids as they are spread out.

We have a cat and a dog. The cat is a grey tabby who weighs about 20 lbs and his name is Pestis Maxima, That is Latin for the biggest pest. Max for short. He probably has the best personality of any cat we've had but he wants to lay on you and be in your face as much as we will let him. Our dog is a Pit Bull-Lab mix that we rescued. We recently had to put down one of our dogs, a Pointer-Lab mix that we rescued 12 years ago. I love cats and my husband loves dogs

We're not "dog people" or "cat people", we're animal people. (Which is kind of how we think of our pets, now that I say it...) We have five dogs: a border collie mix who is 10, whom we adopted from the shelter. She was pregnant when we got her, and we kept four of the puppies, who are now 8 years old. Two of them must have had a big Lab for a daddy; the other two look just like the shepherd their mama was roaming the streets with. We've always had cats, but after our last old gal passed away we decided to wait a bit before we added a couple of kittens to the family--you know how it is, we wanted to wait until we weren't feeling so sad, and I think we're about ready. Back to the shelter!

I'd also like to put in a good word for chickens. We have found them to be wonderful companions. They are sweet and funny and as individual as any dog, cat, or person we've known.

Your block is so beautiful. I can't wait to get a copy of the magazine. Thanks for the generous giveaway. I'm crossing my fingers for the lovely fabric, but would be delighted to be chosen in any order!

I LOVE giveaways!! Thanks! :-)

Love them both, but we have a cat now - working full time 1 1/2 hours from home makes owning a dog pretty much impossible. Our cat is Growltiger, GT for short, she's 11, a talker and actually my son's cat, but his landlord doesn't allow pets, so she lives, reluctantly, with me. Her friend, who was my cat (and who passed away at the age of 16) was Jacki. She was supposed to be my son's cat, but she adopted me. You can't tell cats who to bond with - they have minds of their own.
When I was a kid we took my aunt's dog, Husk, to live with us because my aunt's neighborhood had become too congested and they were afraid Husk would get hit by a car. Husk was black lab and Husky (hence her name) and looked like a small bear. She was an excellent dog!

Until recently I had two golden retreivers. Last month I lost my beloved Zoe to bloat - a devastating condition I had never heard of. I was in the middle of a summer challenge in my quilt guild. I incorporated a paper pieced golden retriever block in that & sewed her name tag on it. Now we are left with our 9-year old golden Sabrina. Although Sabrina misses her forever friend she is enjoying receiving Zoe's share of attention as well as her own.

The first thing that caught my eye apart from your exquisite applique was the background print..it sets off your work beautifully, I love it. Your fabric is lovely and that ruler, looks interesting. I lean towards dogs, having had a toy poodle for 16 years but have been mother and then companion to a Pink and Grey Galah for over a decade now. She has recently revealed her sex to us by laying 3 perfect eggs and it broke my heart to take them off her after a few weeks. We thought until then that we had a male and named him Poppy after my grandfather and my mother's favorite flower! Is this TMI? So Poppy does like to sit on my shoulder and critique my stitching. She also coughs with me when I clear my throat and occasionally if I something goes down the wrong way and I choke..she does too and she screams as well..she reminds me of an alarm going off and it might even save my life or I could die choking and laughing at the same time!!

We claim both! Jinx, our 2 year old border collie, who is smartest, sweetest dog we've had. She let's my 5 year old do just about anything to her, including dressing her up in princess dresses! Our kitties are Buddy, 3, and Lilly, 2, who are absolute riots to watch. All three hang around when I'm sewing and insist on auditioning anything I make.

Your block is lovely! I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of the issue so I can make it.
Cat lover. I have a black/white cat that is about 4 years old. He's huge and weighs about 12 lbs - stretched out about 3.5' long. I also have a 'teenage' cat that is orange tabby and he's just a brat! An outdoor cat that is about 10 years old and hates coming in the house. And last but not least, Nester a grey tabby who is about 13 years old and still going strong!

Sorry, but I'm not a pet lover. However, all dogs and cats seem to love me. I have often been in the homes of friends who have pets, and the pets always gravitate to me - rubbing against my legs, licking my hands, or jumping into my lap. My husband always finds this extremely humorous!
Sewing time for me is thinking time. I guess I'm a complete oddball - not pets, no radion, cds or tv while I'm sewing.
Yes, it takes all kinds to make a world.

Tillie is adorable! I love ALL animals. Currently we have a black kitty that I affectionally and simple call Meow...or when I want to be silly with her it is Stinky, Stinky Lulu.
As soon as I saw your name in the line up of blogs to visit I thought I would see something with geese! You surprised me! Your block is fantastic and fabric choices spot on me!
I've been wanting one of your rulers! I see them all over blogland! In fact, the project I've been working on currently I've been using the Geese 4 At a Time technique and I keep thinking I should have gotten your ruler! Maybe Santa will bring me one for the stocking. :-)

OH! Pets are one of my favorite topics!!! I love all animals and though we only have dogs right now, we do love cats too. We have two furry babies, one the oldest is Schnauzer, 11 years old and failing fast. She has always been my little bright eyed girl and lots of tears have been shed the last two weeks. Lots of calls to our vet of many years and advice on making her comfortable. She just isn't ready yet, she sleeps most of the time but her appetite is very good and when she gets her weak little legs stretched out, she runs and plays with her sister as though she were a pup. Her sister is a Schnauzer mix named Sadie Jo, that we got at 15 months old and is now 7. She had been brutally abused and we actually paid the lady that owned her a bunch, to get her for ourselves. The vet said she was so malnourished and dehydrated that she didn't know if she could save her. Well, obviously she did and ever since we got her home, she started growing into a chubby, funny, bundle of love wrapped up in fur. She doesn't really know how to play, never got the hang of it after we got her off her chain, but when Friskie starts teasing her, she tries to join in the fun and looks like such a dork trying to play tag and tug of war that we usually laugh till tears roll. I can honestly say that without the presence of pets in my home, I would feel lost. Unconditional love and companionship...you can't beat that. I just wish they didn't grow old so much faster than we do. **sigh** Well, I got a little carried away, but I always do when the subject is pets.
Congratulations on having your beautiful block in the new magazine and thank you for your generous giveaway. I haven't tried your Fit to be Geese ruler but I need to. I've been making Flying Geese for the last few days and getting more frustrated with each one. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, I've made them before with no trouble, but I subscribe to the old adage, "If at first" LOL. Hugs...

We are dog people. We currently do not have a dog, but have had several in the past. We had a beagle/terrier mix named Coty, a beagle named Pepper, and a border collie/lab/husky mix named Friday. They have all gone to doggie heaven. We have 2 Chihuahua granddogs named Finn and Fritz and a black lab granddog named Gunner.

We have a dog named Lexie. She likes to lay under or across my feet whenever I sit down. She is an English Springer Spaniel.
Oh my goodness, don't get me started on 4-legged children! We have been blessed with two of the best guys around - both are rescue's and I wouldn't go any other way. Webster was our first, a Schnoodle - he was my sewing buddy. Find me and you find him. Then about 6 years ago Dexter found us. He is more terrier mix and a great lap dog ( and he's warm at night, too!) It broke my heart when Webster went to doggy heaven earlier this year and Dexter isn't all that interested in sewing, but that's ok cause I know he sure likes sleeping under the quilts I make!

I have cats (4 of them). They like to sit in my lap of an evening, especially in cold weather. I can always tell when fall/winter is here when the oldest cat starts to nap in my lap! When I sew, I usually manage to do it without kitty help so I listen to my iPod with books or music.

I currently have 2 dogs: Max, who is half Rottweiler and half black and tan hound. He is a good 100 lbs of baby. He cries like a baby every morning till he gets his morning hugs. Last year he got hit by a car, and almost died. He miraculously recovered, and is just a huge baby. Then there is BB, who is half pit bull, the other half is Sharpei and Chow. He is yellow, short-legged, with a Sharpei face, Chow purple mouth and tongue and curly tail, and medium length very dense fur. He is as loyal and smart as all pits, and not a bit mean. These are my boys, and they love me as much as I love them.

I love your picture of Tilly. I'm a dog lover. Pirate, my black (with white accents) Afghan hound/Irish wolfhound/poodle mix was a "foot dog." He would always curl up on my feet so that he'd know when I moved - he was quite old and hard of hearing when he died a few years ago, so my quilting buddy now is either a book on tape or our local all-classical music station.

I love the fabric you've designed, and I've decided during this blog tour that I must learn to do applique - SOON!

I love cats, had one all my life since I was a child, but developed a reaction to their hair about 10 years ago, so no longer have one. I never liked dogs, didn't have one when young and was afraid of them. Then I moved to a small town where there are probably more dogs than people and married a man who had sled dogs, so I learned to like them, although am sometimes still afraid with some dogs. I own a stray dog, Zeke. I took him in about 2 1/2 years ago and he was about 1 1/2 at the time and had grown up on the streets. He has grown into a lovely dog, but has bad habits of chasing trucks and barking at people.

Oh your quilting buddy is adorable. Such a pretty dog.

I love cats; always have. I love dogs too and always wanted a Yorkie. I have one cat now. We bought him from a cattery two states away from where we live. We went to pick him up after our weekend away for our 1st wedding anniversary back in 2003. His legal name is "Michicats Babycham LaMieux" but we call him Baby. He's a Ragdoll and the most interesting and awesome cat I've ever owned. He talks all the time and has a number of different 'voices' with one of them sounding more like a Gremlin than a cat. That one really freaks people out but it's super funny and that's the one he uses most often. He MUST be in the same room as me ALL the time as most Ragdolls do BUT, he takes that a bit far. Not only does he need to be in the same room, he gets upset when I go behind the shower curtain so he walks the tub between the shower curtain and liner to keep an eye on me or, most often will actually sit IN the back end of the tub while I take my shower even though he's being sprayed with water. He's just a constant source of humor for my husband and I.

I'm a dog person. My quilting buddy is a five year old Kerry Blue Terrier named Duffy. Thanks for the great giveaway-I NEED a Fit to be Geese ruler! I love your beautiful applique block.

I am the proud owner of 4 dogs! Mom is Fancy, dad is Cody, daughter, Dora and son, Rascal. They provide a lot of company and usually a smile on our faces. I am fairly new to quilting, have a lot to learn. Love your quilts!
