American Patchwork & Quilting

Do you get American Patchwork & Quilting?  If you don't, you need to start getting it!  It is one of my favorite quilting magazines.  For several reasons.  First, they always have a wide variety of quilt patterns to choose from.  They will put in everything from applique to modern quilts to traditional quilts.  I love the tip section and editor's article.

Oh, one more thing, I have a quilt in the June, 2013 issue!  :)  The quilt is called Garden Stroll and I used the line Cinnamon Spice by Blackbird Designs for Moda.  Here is a picture of it:

I used one main background and borders.  The rest is scrappy using reds, greens and pinks.  I love the springy look it has.

So, pick up your copy on the newstand if you haven't already received yours in the mail.

Have you seen Thelma from Cupcakes 'n Daisies quilt, Evening Bloom, from Blackbird Designs book Country Inn?  If you haven't, make sure that you click on the link above to see the quilt.  She has been working on it for quite a while and it is absolutely stunning!  Not only are the applique work and fabric choices wonderful, wait until you see the quilting!!  Wow!

So, my friend Kathy and I were out for dinner last week and we were discussing the quilt.  We decided to challenge each other to make this quilt.  We are giving ourselves 2 months to complete each block so that we don't stress about it.  I spent quite a bit of time yesterday choosing (and buying) fabric, plotting and planning.  I think I have come up with a plan.  I love the way that Thelma used the French General fabric lines so I am going to use those as well.  Blackbird Designs also used French General but they used the greys for background.  I decided to go with the creams.  I like to lay out my fabrics to see how they would look together and then I started cutting the applique pieces.  I am waiting for more of the backgrounds before I can start but I'm at least getting prepared.  The greens are from my stash and the border print is from the latest French General line, La Belle Fleur.  So pretty!

Just one more week and block #4 will be posted.  Have a great week!

Monique, I'm so excited you're starting Evening Bloom, it's a lovely pattern and it looks like you're off to a great start. Doing it with a friend makes it even more fun. When you're making your fans for each block, make a few extra, you'll be glad you did when you go piecing that outer border. Good Luck!!

Garden walk is amazing, perfect name, perfect pattern, great job, as usual.

I'm ready to reveal block 4, what an easy block, love it.

Love your Garden Stroll quilt, Monique - just beautiful!
Hi Monique! My copy of AP&Q came in the mail yesterday and I honestly sucked in air when I say your Garden Stroll Quilt. It is incredibly gorgeous. I have loved the Cinnamon Spice collection since I first saw it and I think it is perfect for this quilt. I visit Thelma's and Judi's blogs every day so I saw Thelma's evening blooms as soon as Judi posted it on her blog. Between the two of them it is just beyond beautiful. So much talent in one quilt...amazing. I can't wait to see your Evening Bloom blocks as they come together. Your fabric choices are really wonderful. I have never owned any French General fabric and I drool over it every time I see it, LOL. Big Hugs...
